Depending on how long the Coronavirus draws out, Splash Mountain have have splashed it’s last splash as it will be re-themed to Princess & The Frog after succumbing to pressure from outside groups.

I understand why you would do this. The ride was originally based on the somewhat racist Song of the South (which itself was based on the unarguably more racist Uncle Remus stories from the late 1800's.

Splash Mountain however, is probably as innocent as it gets. In fact, I really do wish they had found an alternative preservation method. I don’t really know what that would look like but it’s really hard to imagine that people are actually offended by the ride itself. It’s 130 years removed from Uncle Remus and a quick google search reveals that people refer to “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” as “The Splash Mountain Song” not “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah ”.

I’m sure the Princess and the Frog version will be fine. Will it fit with the theme of Frontierland? Probably not.

Admittedly, Splash Mountain (Florida) is probably my 3rd favorite Magic Kingdom ride after Haunted Mansion and Carousel of Progress (another one I’m surprise hasn’t been cancelled yet).

There’s something special about a view of the future presented using all the technology of the 1960s. Actually amazing how entertaining a 60 year old ride can be. I actually wish they would be a “version 2" next door to continue the idea using all the technology of the 2020s.

Have you watched the Imagineers series? It was a pretty good watch. It was of course telling the Disney story, written by, created by and shown in Disney so it's one sided but definitely an interesting look into the creation of the parks and their history.

Yeah, it was decent watch! It tells the story better than the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, that’s for sure.

“ Actually amazing how entertaining a 60 year old ride can be.”

How I know our boy Nick  has never owned a classic vehicle. Next time you’re in town I’ll have you zip around on my ‘70s Yamaha if you can get it kick started.
